LAREDO, Texas — St. Edward's outscored Texas A&M International in the fourth quarter and held off the Dustdevils, 72-68, in Lone Star Conference women's basketball action Saturday at the Kinesiology Building.
TAMIU (12-8, 9-5 LSC) led 39-36 at halftime and carried a 55-52 advantage into the final quarter after a back-and-forth third period. However, St. Edward's (11-10, 5-8 LSC) used a late surge in the fourth, outscoring the Dustdevils 20-13 in the period to secure the road win.
Jayden Smallwood paced TAMIU with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Carmen Morcillo added 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while Abigail Martinez-Cora contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Racheal Emmanuel chipped in seven points and five rebounds, and Bridgette Tello scored seven off the bench.
St. Edward's was led by Suni Davis with a game-high 19 points, while Kiana Bennett added 18.
Both teams finished with 34 or more rebounds, with St. Edward's holding a slight 35-34 edge on the glass. The Hilltoppers also capitalized on key moments late to complete the comeback.
TAMIU shot 37.9 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three, while St. Edward's finished at 40.3 percent overall.
The Dustdevils will look to bounce back in their next Lone Star Conference contest.

Smallwood led the Dustdevils with a team-high 17 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, and four steals in an all-around performance. The senior guard attacked the rim, got to the free-throw line, and created opportunities on both ends of the floor, helping TAMIU carry the lead into the fourth quarter. Smallwood's energy and defensive pressure kept the Dustdevils in control for much of the afternoon as she paced the team in scoring.
