Guardiola Strikes Out Eleven In Dustdevils Series Finale Win Over ASU

LAREDO,TEXAS   Dustdevils starting pitcher Rudy Guardiola gathers the most strikeouts by a player this season with 11, holding back the Rams in the series finale winning 8-6 Sunday inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

TAMIU (11-19) gathered a two-run lead heading into the top of the third with an RBI single by Giovanni Malatesta in the first and an RBI single by Ciro Benavides in the second.  

Angelo State (20-10) in the top of the third, score their first run of the ball game with an RBI double by Blake Wilhoite.   

Dustdevils responded in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs by an RBI single to right field by Fabrizio Salinas and a two-rbi single to left field by Derek Garcia

Rudy Guardiola in his fourth start of the season goes into 5.2 innings of work, holding the Rams to only five hits and four runs, striking out 11 of the 22 batters faced.  

Rams in the sixth find three runs coming home off the bat of Tate Green with a three-run home run, his second one of the season. This cut the Dustdevils lead to only one, 5-4.  

After two back-to-back three up three down innings by both teams, in the top of the eighth the Rams took a late game lead with Peyton Bush scoring on a wild pitch and Tate Green's sac fly scoring Chase Pendley to lead 6-5. 

The Dustdevils responded immediately in the bottom with David Benitez getting on base with a walk, Ciro Benavides singled to center field, and Eddie Saenz is walked loading the bases.  

This is when Jacob Angell hit a sac fly scoring Benitez tying it 6-6. Fabrizio Salinas then takes the lead with an RBI single to left field scoring Benavides.  Eddie Saenz scores on a wild pitch building the lead to 8-6, which was held after nine innings.  

Dustdevils continue conference play at home against UT Dallas this weekend.  

  
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
 Junior Pitcher from Laredo, Texas, Rudy Guardiola, in his fourth start of the season collected 11 strikeouts, holding batters to .181 in his longest appearance of the season (5.2 inn)This is the most strikeouts in a single appearance by a Dustdevil player this season. Guardiola is currently pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
