Dustdevils Split Friday Doubleheader Against St. Mary's

LAREDO, Texas-- The Dustdevils lose game one 14-6, and bounce back in Game Two winning 11-6 off dominant early hitting inside Jorge Haynes Field. 

Game One, 14-6, Loss 

Through five innings of play, the game was tied 4-4 with a big two-run homerun from Eddie Saenz and an RBI double by Ciro Benavides leading the way.  

The Rattlers responded in the sixth scoring five runs off six walks, causing two pitchers to be subbed in, Mark Chapa, and Jose Duran.  

In the seventh, four more walks were given, and six more runs came home off three hits from Raithen Malone, Dillon Lopez, and Garrett Brooks.  

The Rattlers took game one 14-6 after scoring 11 runs in the final three innings.  

Game Two, 11-6, Win 

The Dustdevils responded to the Game One loss with eight runs scoring in the first, with 10 players appearing at the plate to swing.  This inning saw big hits from Tristian Cavazos (2RBI Double), Issac Stanwick (2RBI Double), and Ciro Benavides (3RBI Double) .  

The Rattlers tried their best to claw back from the early deficit with two homeruns coming from Dillion Lopez and Garrett Brooks.  

Dustdevils' reliever R.J Patrick kept the Rattlers in check with three strikeouts, one walk and only four earned runs.  

TAMIU (10-10) plays StMU (13-7) in the final two games of the series Saturday inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Senior second baseman, Ciro Benavides, in the doubleheader went 4-for-8 with five RBI and now leads the team with 24 RBIs on the season with a .449 batting average. Benavides is currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice.
