Espinoza Walk Off Win Against SEU

LAREDO,TEXAS – The Dustdevils take game four with a walk off by sophomore Eduardo Espinoza to win final score of 10-9 inside Jorge Haynes Field Sunday.  

St. Edward's (24-17) built a 5-0 lead after three innings of play with a big two run double from Kade Nathman in the second paired with RBI base hits by Jackson Schofield and Austin Page in the third.  

TAMIU (15-27) responded in the bottom of the third with three runs, an RBI single by Asahi Nakano scoring Ciro Benavides and an Error by Hilltopper catcher Austin Page bringing home Nakano and Iann Cobos.  

The Hilltoppers scored two in the fifth with bases loaded by a sac ground out from Jackson Schofield and Kade Nathman coming home off a pass ball extending the lead to 7-3.   

The Dustdevils responded immediately with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Designated Hitter Jacob Angell hit an RBI single to center scoring Iann CobosGiovanni Malatesta comes home of a wild pitch and Jesus Sosa hits a ground out to score Angell.  

In the bottom of the sixth, Dustdevils found themselves up a run 8-7 with an RBI single by Malatesta scoring Eddie Saenz and Nakano coming home off a wild pitch.  

The Hilltoppers tied it once again with Ben Marrimen hitting a sac fly to center scoring Grayson Doggett in the top of the eighth.  

In the bottom of the eighth Dustdevils took a one-run lead once again this time with a standup solo home run by Eddie Saenz.  

Hilltopper Jacob Bullcroft responded with a solo home run of his own towards left field tying it once more 9-9. 

In the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded, Eduardo Espinoza in a 2-1 count singles up the left side of the infield scoring Roberto Chapparo to win the ball game 10-9 inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

The Dustdevils hit the road for their final road series of the season against West Texas A&M this weekend in Canyon,Texas.  

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Sophomore Catcher, from Maturin, Monagas, Venezuela, Eduardo Espinoza, checked in for David Benitez in the third inning and went 1-for-3 hitting the walk off to win game four.  Espinoza is currently pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
