LAREDO, TX – Seniors Janize Castillo and Eddie Saenz receive the 2026 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete award.  

Each academic year, the Conference presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete who are members of the graduating class at each LSC institution. Award recipients are selected by their campus and represent outstanding accomplishments in scholarship, athletics, and leadership. Honorees must have participated in their sport for at least two years. 

Saenz, over the course of his Dustdevils career, recorded 110 hits,16 homeruns, and 178 total bases in 86 games played. Saenz the Laredo native, also was the recipient of two Commissioners Honor Roll awards through his exceptional work in the classroom. Saenz was awarded the 2026 President's Scholar-Athlete Award at this year's athletic banquet. Saenz graduated with a degree in Kinesiology. 

Castillo, over the course of her Dustdevils career, collected 867 minutes on the pitch in 21 games played. Off the field Castillo lead the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for a year as President. Castillo the native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been awarded Commissioners Honor Roll twice and has been noted for her ability to lead on and off the field. Castillo graduated with a degree in Business.
