TAMIU Powers Past Sul Ross State to Begin LSC Challenge
LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball delivered a dominant performance Thursday evening, sweeping Sul Ross State 3-0 inside the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
The Dustdevils (5-5) earned the straight-set victory by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-13.
TAMIU set the tone offensively from the opening serve, recording 17 kills and hitting .419 in the first set. The Dustdevils pulled away to take the opener 25-20 and carried the momentum into the second, holding Sul Ross State to a negative hitting percentage in a 25-15 victory.
The Dustdevils saved their best offensive performance for the final set. TAMIU committed just two attacking errors while recording 15 kills on 21 attempts for a blistering .619 hitting percentage, closing out the match with a 25-13 win.
TAMIU finished the night with 41 kills and just 10 attacking errors on 81 attempts, good for a .383 team hitting percentage. The Dustdevils held the Lobos to 22 kills and a .026 hitting percentage.
Mia Molina led the Dustdevils offensively with a match-high 10 kills while hitting .280. She added six digs, two service aces and two block assists for a team-high 13 points. Ece Ozdemir followed with nine kills on a .389 hitting percentage and three block assists, while Sierra Sanchez put down seven kills on 10 attempts with just one error for a .600 hitting percentage. Andrea Nunez added six kills while hitting .308.
Deanna Montgomery directed the offense with a match-high 20 assists while adding three service aces. Giulia Gainelli contributed 14 assists and five digs. At the net, Fernanda Izar led the Dustdevils with seven block assists as TAMIU totaled 18 block assists in the victory.
The win brings TAMIU back to .500 at 5-5 overall as the Dustdevils continue their 2026 campaign.

Molina is a senior outside hitter for Texas A&M International University and is currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. A native of Laredo, TX, Mia is the daughter of Rolando and Maricela Molina and was born on April 12, 2005.
