Final Stats
Laredo, Texas - St. Mary's scored two goals in the second half as the Texas A&M International University women's soccer team fell 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. It was tale of two halfs for the Dustdevils as they outshot the Rattlers 4-1 and controlled the pace of the game in the opening half, but couldn't match the Rattlers in the second. St. Mary's outshot TAMIU 8-4 in the final 45 minutes, picking up up goals from Leia Kirch and Kaitie Kasperitis.
The Dustdevils moved the ball well in the first half and got several great opportunities, but couldn't find a way to get past St. Mary's keeper Paola Ostos who finshed with five saves. At the break, the teams would head into the locker rooms tied at zero.
The second half was a different story, as the Rattlers put five shots on goal and were able to beat keeper Noemi Salazar Twice.
The opening goal came off a St. Mary's throw-in that was deflected off the foot of Kasperitis to a waiting Kirch, who had a nice touch to set up a shot past Salazar. The second was set up by a nifty back heel pass by Ashleigh Wells that was rocketed into the net by Kasperitis.
The Dustdevils had brief moments of freedom in the latter stages of the second half, but Rattler defenders swarmed the attack to keep TAMIU from getting any clean shots on goal.
The Dustdevils slip to 1-4 in conference play, 2-10-1 overall. The team hits the road October 21st to take on U.T. Permian Basin, followed by another road game at Newman October 23rd.
