The Lady Chaps edged the Dustdevils, 94-89, at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation building. The first place and current top-seed for the Heartland Tournament Dustdevils fell to 13-3 (17-5 overall), with all three conference losses coming against NCAA provisional schools – twice to LCU and once to Oklahoma Christian. Second-place St. Edward's (14-6, 9-5 Heartland) was inactive on Thursday, to sit two-games back in the loss column.

With one final home game, coming on Saturday against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (5-11, 6-15 Heartland), the Dustdevils will play three consecutive games on the road to close the regular season. The is a chance for more Dustdevil home games, though, as the conference's full-member top-seed finisher will earn the opportunity to host the tournament on March 7-8.

In the loss, the Dustdevils saw five players – four starters – score in double figures, including double-doubles by Malika Jackson (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Jessica Woo (15 points, 13 rebounds). Senior Samantha Chacon shot 8-for-18 from the field – and 3-for-5 from long range – to sink 23 points while adding a pair of assists; she stayed on the court for the entire game, not resting throughout the entire 40 minutes.

Jackson was 5-for-8 from the field and a monster on defense, grabbing all 11 boards while defending. She also stuffed a shot and swiped a pair of steals in 27 minutes.

Woo contributed the majority of her rebounding on defense as well, grabbing all but three off Lady Chaps attempts. She came off the bench to play 28 gritty minutes.

Starting point guard Re'Nikia Meshack scored 11 points with seven rebounds – all as the shortest player on the court at 5-foot-4 inches tall. She completed a steal and two assists while playing all but 10 minutes.

Jessica Prieto, Laredo native and starting sophomore, scored 10 points with three assists, a block and two steals while playing all but five minutes.

The Dustdevils had three others contribute offensively, including Tina Dang's eight points off 4-for-5 shooting from the field. The senior also dished an assist while playing 17 minutes.

Mason Hawk scored three points, all of which on a bucket from downtown, in just five minutes of action.

Alexis Thomas hit a free throw for her only point of the game, but she grabbed six rebounds – including four on defense.

The conference-leading Dustdevils will return for their final home action of the regular season on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. as they will wear pink jerseys in honor of the Play 4 Kay campaign.

According to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's website, "The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

"Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. With the creation of the Fund, Kay hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation's top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials. Since the majority of these research projects are privately funded, these researchers desperately need our support in order for them to continue to make strides in finding a cure for cancer."

Fans that wear pink to the game will earn FREE admission to the home finale.

Feb. 15 will also serve as the team's senior day, as Chacon, Dang and Jackson will be honored for the Dustdevil careers by fans, family, TAMIU and the Laredo community in a pregame ceremony.
