CLAREMORE, Okla. – Texas A&M International entered the Claremore Expo Center to face Rogers State on Saturday with a stout three-game lead in the Heartland Conference. That margin was kept intact after a double-overtime thriller that saw five Dustdevils (17-4, 13-2 Heartland) score 10 or more points.
Malika Jackson led the way with a whopping game-high 23 points – including a 5-for-5 performance from the free throw line – and 11 rebounds to claim a double-double, while two-time Heartland Player of the Week Samantha Chacon finished with 19 points.
Both Jackson and Chacon fouled out of the game, finishing with 38 and 33 minutes played, respectively.
Jackson recorded four assists, two blocks and a steal while Chacon had an assist and a steal.
Jessica Prieto scored 14 points with three assists, stuffed three RSU shots and finished with a steal in 46 minutes.
Tina Dang scored 13 points with two rebounds and three assists off the bench. Alexis Thomas scored 11 points and made seven rebounds to go with a block, an assist and a steal.
Jessica Woo scored four points and Re'Nikia Meshack scored four and three points respectively.
As a team, the Dustdevils shot 22-for-28 from the free throw line, including nearly 82 percent in the second half and a perfect 100 percent in the first overtime period. They also scored 10 more points in the paint and points off turnovers than RSU.
The Dustdevils next host provisional Heartland member Lubbock Christian on Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
