Oklahoma City, OK – On Saturday afternoon, the Texas A&M International Dustdevils (9-10, 5-6 Heartland) fell to the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles (8-11, 5-6 Heartland) at the Eagles Nest, 51-60.
Senior Stella Ghazarian was the first to put numbers on the scoreboard for the Dustdevils, with a jumper 2 ½ minutes into the game. The Eagles tied the game at two, and then TAMIU took the lead again from a jumper by junior Jessica Prieto. The teams battled back and forth for the majority of the first half until OC went off and led the Dustdevils by eight at halftime. Prieto and Ghazarian were two of three Dustdevils to score in the first half, with 15 and seven points, respectively.
TAMIU struggled to come back from their eight point deficit in the second half, as the Eagles put baskets up and had their largest lead of 21 in the second half. TAMIU started to come back from that shortage with points from Prieto and junior Chelsea Salom.
The Dustdevils shot 24.2 percent from the field, and 10.3 percent from the 3-point range. TAMIU's free throw percentage overrode the Eagles' with 81.8 percent (18-22).
Prieto led TAMIU with 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block.
Ghazarian put up nine points for the Dustdevils. Salom and senior Jessica Woo each had seven points on the afternoon. Salom also recorded eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals for TAMIU.
Next up, the Dustdevils will face the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions on their home court Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. for TAMIU's Spirit Week game. The Lions are currently in second place in the conference with a record of 11-7, 9-2 Heartland.
