TAMIU cut short by Cameron in post-Thanksgiving showdown

CANYON, Texas (November 27, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Women's Basketball team traveled to Canyon, Texas for their first contest of the 2015 PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic against Cameron on Friday afternoon. For a third time in school history, the Dustdevils matched up against the Aggies, which resulted in a 58-77 loss. TAMIU is now 0-3 in the all-time series with Cameron, and 1-4 overall in their 2015-16 campaign.

The Dustdevils captured two leads in the contest with help from Seniors Keiona Mathews and Jessica Prieto early in the first quarter. As a team, TAMIU sunk four of five free throw attempts in the first half, but missed five of the six opportunities for free throws in the second half. By the final buzzer, the Dustdevils had hit 22.7% beyond the arc, while posting a 35.3% in field points. The Aggies came out on top by notching over 45% in both categories, while they had completed 16 of 22 attempts at the line.

TAMIU's Senior Guards led the Dustdevils in their efforts against Cameron. Keiona Mathews contributed 22 of the 58 points, while Senior Guard Jessica Prieto topped the assists column with nine. Senior Guard Chelsea Salom collected 3 steals.

Up next, TAMIU will look to end West Texas A&M's perfect season (4-0) when they face off for Game Two of the 2015 PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 28th at 2:30pm. The Dustdevils and Lady Buffs will meet for the second time in program history in Canyon.
