LAREDO, Texas (January 21, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team pushed their win streak to five (5) Thursday night. The Dustdevils defeated Heartland Conference rival St. Mary's 78-72. The Dustdevils move to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The Dustdevils found themselves in another tight battle with a Heartland Conference opponent Thursday. Following a back and forth duel, the Dustdevils led by eight (8) at the half. The final 20 minutes provided more tight action but the Dustdevils never surrendered their lead.
The offensive efforts were led by Senior
Anthony Alston. Alston finished with 26 points, going 17-19 from the stripe.
Arkeem Joseph went 6-7 from the field, scoring 13 points.
Jordan VanDeKop continued scoring well, finishing with 13 points and two (2) rebounds.
TAMIU found success inside, scoring 36 points in the paint. Free-throws were crucial in the win as the Dustdevils sank 24 shots from the line. TAMIU shot 63% from the field and drained six (6) three-point baskets.

Bryan Weakley commented after the game saying, "I am so thankful for our bench. They really gave us a great spark tonight. We didn't have one of our best defensive games but I give St. Mary's a lot of credit. They are very well coached and they play the right away."
The Dustdevils will be back in action Monday, January 25 in Dallas, Texas. TAMIU will continue Heartland Conference play against Dallas Baptist University. Tip-Off is set for 7 pm CST.
