DALLAS, Texas (January 25, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team (13-5, 8-2 HC) traveled to face Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist (14-4, 8-2 HC) on Monday evening. The Dustdevils were faced with a loss of 62-7, snapping their 5 game win-streak.
Early in the first half, the Dustdevils broke open the scoring with a
Jake Eynon 3-ball that set the tone for TAMIU. With this momentum, TAMIU held their advantage against the Patriots through the starting minutes of play. After swapping leads with 8 minutes remaining in the 1st half, the Dustdevils continued to hold their ground. DBU's aggressive offensive push in the final minutes of the half resulted in a Patriots lead going into the locker rooms.
With a fresh mentality in the second half, TAMIU looked to cut the Patriots lead. Behind by four in the final minute, the Dustdevils stayed within close range against a competitive Dallas Baptist team. A turnover call by the referees in the final seconds took possession away from TAMIU, leaving the Dustdevils with the loss.
Taking charge for TAMIU was Junior
Jordan VanDeKop, who contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Seniors
Anthony Alston and
Arkeem Joseph added to the Dustdevils leadership by adding 11 points each of their own.
Up next, the Dustdevils will return home to face the Newman Jets (11-7, 4-6 HC) on Thursday, January 28. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30pm CST in the TAMIU KCB.
