Chaps deal Dustdevils shutout at home

LAREDO, Texas (October 13, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Soccer team kicked off their final week of play at home on Thursday. The Dustdevils took on Lubbock Christian University. TAMIU was dealt a 0-5 loss to the Chaps, moving to 0-13-0 overall (0-9 HC).

Lubbock Christian struck first in the 11th minute of play, taking a 1-0 advantage.

TAMIU looked to even the game on a shot from Abigail Colmenares in the 15th minute.

LCU would extend their lead with a stretch of three goals midway through the first half.

The Dustdevils found themselves trailing by four goals through 45 minutes of play.

TAMIU worked defensively in the second half, holding the Lady Chaps to one goal in the second half before falling 0-5.

The Dustdevils put two shots on goal and recorded nine saves in the game. Kiyana Lopez played all 90 minutes in net for TAMIU.

Head Coach Felipe Arias commented after the game, "Unfortunately we gave away an entire half due to defensive mistakes. A good team like Lubbock will make you pay for those moments of lack of focus. Our effort was better in the second half, I give my players credit for that."

The Dustdevils will close out the home portion of the 2016 schedule on Saturday, October 15. TAMIU takes on Oklahoma Christian at the TAMIU Soccer Complex for Senior Day. Play is set to begin at 12 pm CST.
