WICHITA, Kansas (November 3, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team continued a week-long road trip on Thursday. TAMIU took on Newman University, falling 0-3. The Dustdevils are now 2-21 overall (2-10 HC).
SET 1: TAMIU 11- NU 25
TAMIU was unable to stop an early run by Newman in the first set on Thursday. Newman opened an early 11-5 lead that would prove to be the key for the Jets. A late seven-point Jet run would end the first set for TAMIU.
SET 2: TAMIU 11 - NU 25
After an early Dustdevil lead, Newman went on an 11 point run, taking a nine-point advantage over TAMIU. Two late pushes from the Dustdevils were not enough to diminish the lead, leading to a set two loss.
SET 3: TAMIU 15 - NU 25
After falling down early in the third set, TAMIU looked to even the set mid-way through. A five-point Dustdevil run would bring TAMIU within five of the lead. Newman would respond with a five-point run of their own, taking the third set 25-15.
Alejandra Bustamante led the Dustdevils with nine digs.
Tori Zamora picked up seven assists while
Jordan Ruiz recorded four kills.
Megan Unrath led the Dustdevils with three blocks.
The Dustdevils continue their road trip with a Heartland Conference matchup on Saturday. TAMIU takes on Arkansas Fort Smith in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The match is set to begin at 12pm CST.
