KINGSVILLE, Texas (January 11, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team kicked off its second weekend tournament Thursday night. In the first of five games this weekend, the Dustdevils were dealt a 6-7 loss. TAMIU is now 5-6 overall.
Down 7-3 in the seventh, the Dustdevils put together a late rally. With runners on second and third
Alyssa Acuna doubled to left center, scoring
Chelsea Capello and
Brenda Parnin. With one out
Ashley Hight hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Acuna from third. The Dustdevils cut the lead to one before the final out was recorded. TAMIU will have another shot at the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Alyssa Acuna led the way at the plate, going 2-2 with 3 RBI.
Krissy Sardelich,
Brittany Mussett, and Hight each recorded one hit and 1 RBI.
Brandi Giles got the start for TAMIU, pitching 2 innings, giving up four (4) hits while striking out one.
Delainy Thompson and
Chelsea Capello each pitched two innings of relief, both recorded one (1) strikeout.
TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday in Kingsville, Texas. The Dustdevils will continue play in the Texas A&M Kingsville Tournament, facing Southwestern Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 8 am.
