Sunday split, TAMIU wins one, loses one in final day of TAMUK Tournament

KINGSVILLE, Texas (February 14, 2016) –The Texas A&M International University Softball team finished play in the TAMUK Tournament with a win and a loss Sunday. TAMIU defeated Black Hills State 9-3 in game one, but were handed a 3-6 loss to Texas A&M Kingsville in game two. The Dustdevils are now 7-8 overall.
 
Game 1: TAMIU 9, Black Hills State, 3
The Dustdevils took game one in convincing fashion. Brittany Mussett drove in the first run of the game in the third inning. Brandi Giles launched a two-run home run in the fourth, putting TAMIU up 3-0. The Dustdevils continued pushing runs across in the fifth. Krissy Sardelich lined a single up the middle, scoring Krystal Perez. TAMIU used two (2) bases loaded walks for two more runs in the fifth. The Dustdevils added three (3) insurance runs in the sixth. Sardelich doubled to left center, scoring Perez for the second time. Mussett followed that with a 2 RBI double down the right field line, scoring Sardelich and Taylor Vines.
 
Sardelich finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and two (2) runs scored. Giles went 1-2 with 3 RBI and one (1) run scored.
 
Krystal De La Cruz picked up her sixth win of the season. De La Cruz threw a complete game, allowing just three (3) runs, striking out six (6).
 
Game 2: TAMIU 3, Texas A&M Kingsville 6
TAMIU took on tournament host, Kingsville in game two. Chelsea Capello got things started for the Dustdevils, lining a triple down the left field line. Mussett and Sardelich scored on the triple. Brenda Parnin drove in TAMIU's third run on a double to left, scoring Sardelich. The Dustdevils couldn't push across any in the top of the seventh, leading to the final score of 3-6.
 
Capello went 1-3 at the plate with 2 RBI, while Sardelich finished 1-3 with two (2) runs scored. Parnin went 1-3 with an RBI.
 
Delainy Thompson started in the circle for the Dustdevils. Thompson pitched five (5) innings, allowing six (6) runs on 10 hits, striking out three (3). De La Cruz pitched the final inning for TAMIU, allowing one (1) hit, recording one (1) strikeout.
 
The Dustdevils finish the TAMUK Tournament 2-3. TAMIU will travel to Corpus Christi for their next set of games. The Dustdevils will take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a double header on February 16. Fist pitch is set for 1 pm CST.
