VICTORIA, Texas (February 24, 2016) – The Teas A&M International University Baseball team defeated the University of Houston Victoria Jaguars 11-3 Wednesday. The win snapped a three (3) game losing streak for TAMIU. With the victory TAMIU garnered their first win against UHV at Riverside Stadium. The Dustdevils are now 5-9 overall.
TAMIU got off to a hot start, scoring five (5) runs in the first inning. The first run crossed the plate on a
William Mora sacrifice fly.
Mario Ramirez added two more runs with a single up the middle, scoring
Alexander Cabezas and
Eddie Rubalcaba. The Dustdevils added another run in the fourth. Mora lined a single down the right field line, scoring
Cody Perez from third. TAMIU added runs in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead to 10. UH-Victoria would add two (2) runs in the seventh, cutting the lead to eight (8). The Dustdevils, led by
Jeremy Valadez put up 12 hits on the Jaguars.
Valadez went 4-4 at the plate with two (2) RBI and two (2) runs scored. Mora finished 2-4 at the plate with two (2) RBI. Rubalcaba, Cabezas, and Ramirez each added two (2) RBI.
Osvaldo Raya started on the mound for TAMIU. Raya threw five (5) innings, allowing just one (1) run on four (4) hits, striking out four (4).
Justin Diaz and
Daniel Edmondo paired up to relieve Raya.
TAMIU will continue play on the road, March 4 in Arlington, Texas. The Dustdevils will take on Arlington Baptist. Friday's matchup will kick off a three game series, ending with a double header on Saturday. First pitch is set for 4 pm.
