LAREDO, Texas (February 27, 2016) -- An overtime filled with fouls for the Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team concluded their regular season on the road against Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon. The Chaps capitalized on multiple TAMIU techinical fouls, sticking the Dustdevils with a 79-90 overtime loss. The team's final record sits at 18-10, with a 13-7 record in Heartland Conference play.
TAMIU took control in the first half, starting with a lead that was never touched by the Chaps. The Dustdevils took a four-point advantage into the locker room at half, looking to continue their control of the game. However, the Chaps returned to the floor with different plans. LCU captured their first lead of the contest four minutes into the second half. The teams exchanged offensive drives, but a buzzer-beating three pointer by the Chaps eventually would force overtime.
Overtime scoring was opened up by the Dustdevils. The teams were trading baskets for baskets, until TAMIU became plagued with foul trouble with two minutes remaining in overtime. TAMIU found themselves at an eight-point deficit after the fouls were accounted for, which they were unable to recover from by the final buzzer. A total of 32 fouls were called on the Dustdevils through 45 minutes of play.
The Dustdevils offensive effort was led by Junior
Kenny Hatch. Hatch tallied 21 points, 4 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals total. TAMIU was also driven by Senior
Anthony Alston and Junior
Jordan VanDeKop. Alston recorded 17 points, 6 assists, 4 boards and 2 steals. VanDeKop added 15 of his own, including 4 boards and 3 assists.
