TULSA, Oklahoma (March 4, 2016) – The Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team concluded their 2015-16 campaign against the St. Edward's Hilltoppers, 69-84, on Friday evening in Tulsa. The loss in the 2016 Heartland Conference Basketball Quarterfinal contest gives the Dustdevils a 18-11 overall record in 2015-16 season.
To start the game, Junior
Jordan VanDeKop opened the scoring for the Dustdevils with a layup to answer St. Edward's initial 6-point lead. TAMIU and the Hilltoppers traded baskets, before SEU broke open the scoring. Senior
Anthony Alston tied up the score at 16-all with a long-range 3 before the second media timeout.
Deveino McRae entered the game shortly after to give TAMIU their first lead of the game, 18-16.
Through the first 20 minutes of play, the Dustdevils found themselves down by 4 at the half by a score of 33-37.
Junior
Arthur Santanna opened the scoring in the second half of play, hitting a jumper worth two for the Dustdevils. The Hilltoppers pushed to build their lead through the first media-timeout. As the Dustdevils looked to rally, St. Edward's continued their strong defensive strategy to limit TAMIU's ability to get quality shots off. Depsite the Dustdevils efforts to catch the Hilltoppers, they were eventually held to the 69-84 loss.
Stepping up for the Dustdevils were Juniors
Jordan VanDeKop,
Arthur Santanna, and
Kenny Hatch. VanDeKop notched 22 points, while going 4-4 at the line, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Santanna added 13 points of his own, also going 100% at the line (2-2). Hatch collected 6 assists and 4 steals. Seniors
Anthony Alston and
Arkeem Joseph played their final games as Dustdevils, Alston collecting 9 total points and 5 boards, while Joseph gathered 6 points.
