SAN ANTONIO. Texas (April 29, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University continued play in the winners bracket of the 2016 Heartland Conference Softball Tournament on Friday. After upsetting No. 4 St. Edward's and No. 1 St. Mary's on Thursday, TAMIU was dealt a 2-5 loss to No. 2 Lubbock Christian University.
Game five of the Heartland Conference tournament saw the LCU Lady Chaps take an early lead over the Dustdevils. Down by five runs through five complete innings TAMIU came back to plate two runs on home runs from
Brenda Parnin and
Chelsea Capello. Capello and Parnin's longballs cut the deficit to three heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Dustdevils would hold the Lady Chaps scoreless in the sixth but could not push across the tying runs in the seventh.
TAMIU will now wait to play their next opponent at 4 pm. The Dustdevils next opponent will be the winner of the Oklahoma Christian vs. St. Mary's game. At the conclusion of the game TAMIU's next opponent will be announced on Twitter and Facebook.
