LAREDO, Texas (April 8, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a three game series with Rogers State on Friday. The Dustdevils took a 6-12 loss in game one and picked up a 5-1 win in game two. TAMIU moves to 16-19 overall (7-7 HC).
Game 1: Dustdevils 6, Hillcats 12Game one saw the Dustdevils erase a four run defecit to force extra innings. TAMIU plated three runs in the third behind an two RBI single from
Alexander Cabezas and an RBI double from Senior
Jeffrey Morgan. After three complete, the score was 6-5 in favor of the Hillcats.
Sergio Pollorena would bring the game even with an RBI groundout, scoring
William Mora in the sixth. Rogers State put up six runs in the eighth, picking up a win in game one.
Game 2: Dustdevils 5, Hillcats 1Junior
Dustin Labit turned in his second consecutive quality start, picking up his thrid win of the season. Labit threw a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits, striking out eight Hillcats. The win comes after a complete game shutout win against OPSU last weekend.
Abel Aguilar drove in
Mario Ramirez in the third to give TAMIU a 1-0 advantage.
William Mora launched his sixth home run of the season, bringing in Aguilar, putting TAMIU up 3-0. The Hillcats picked up a run in the fourth with a home run of their own, cutting the lead to two. Ramirez answered, driving in Cabezas in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double.
Osvaldo Rosas would give Labit an additional insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Labit retired the Hillcats 1-2-3 in the seventh, leading to the 5-1 final score.
The Dustdevils close out the series Saturday at Jorge Haynes Field. First pitch is set for 12 pm CST.
