LAREDO, Texas (April 9, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team concluded a three game sweep of UTPB on Saturday. Senior
Chelsea Capello kissed her last game at Dustdevil Field goodbye, by blasting the ball out of the park on Senior Day. The Dustdevils defeated the Falcons 6-2, moving to 8-7 in the Heartland Conference and 22-27 overall.
The Dustdevils used a solid performace from
Delainy Thompson in the circle and a trio of two-run innings to pick up the win. Capello crossed the plate in the first on a ball off the bat of
Taylor Vines.
Brittany Mussett would drive in Vines on a sacrifice bunt. Two home runs highlighted the third for TAMIU.
Brenda Parnin followed Capello's home run with a solo shot of her own, putting TAMIU up 4-1.
Alyssa Acuna would continue her strong play, driving in a run in the fourth, stretching the lead to four. Vines came around to score the sixth run of the day after
Erika Sanchez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Falcons managed a run in the sixth before being set down.
Delainy Thompson turned in her second solid start in the circle, tossing seven innings. Thompson picked up her tenth win of the year, striking out nine.
The Dustdevils travel to Lubbock, Texas for a three game series with Lubbock Christian on Friday. First pitch is set for 1 pm CST.
