LUBBOCK, Texas (April 15, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Softball team opened a three game series with Lubbock Christian on Friday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 1-5 loss in game one and fell 4-12 in game two. TAMIU moves to 22-29 overall (10-10 HC).
Game 1: TAMIU 1, LCU 5Chelsea Capello put the Dustdevils up early in game one. Capello lined a double down the left field line, bringing in
Anna Parnin from second. TAMIU held the lead behind the pitching of
Delainy Thompson through four innings. The Lady Chaps pushed across five runs in the fifth, taking the lead, which would stand through the conclusion. Thompson went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Krystal De La Cruz and
Brandi Giles combined for 1.2 innings of relief.
Game 2: TAMIU 4, LCU 12A pair of six run innings proved to be insurmountable for the Dustdevils in game two. Trailing by six in the second Brittany Musset cut the lead to five, scoring on a wild pitch. A six run second put the Lady Chaps up 12-1.
Chelsea Capello cut in to the lead, blasting a two-out solo homerun in the third.
Ashley Hight came into the came as a pinch hitter in the fifth. Hight led off the inning with a line drive shot, clearing the fence for a homerun. Giles followed that with a solo shot of her own, cutting the lead to eight.
The Dustdevils close out the series tomorrow in Lubbock. First pitch is set for 11 am CST.
