SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 6, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team kicked off the final regular season series of 2016 on Friday. TAMIU took on St. Mary's in a day/night doubleheader. The Dustdevils were dealt a 1-3 loss in game one and a 1-11 loss in game two. TAMIU is now 16-31 overall.
Game 1: TAMIU 1, STMU 3
Game one featured a pitchers duel as both teams combined for just four runs.
Osvaldo Raya took the mound for the Dustdevils. Raya went six complete innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three. The Dustdevils were held to just two hits.
Mario Ramirez and
Alexander Cabezas collected the TAMIU hits. The Rattlers would plate runs in the first, third, and sixth to open a 3-0 lead. Ramirez drove in the Dustdevil run in the final frame on a sacrifice fly,
Arturo Guajardo scored.
Game 2: TAMIU 1, STMU 11
St. Mary's got on the board first in game two. The Rattlers scored one in the bottom of the first inning. TAMIU would battle back to bring the game even in the second. Cabezas drove in Guajardo on an infield single. St. Mary's would plate the next ten runs of the ballgame, taking an 11-1 lead. TAMIU collected five hits, two from Cabezas.
Dustin Labit started the second game of the twinbill. Labit tossed five innings, striking out three, taking the loss.
Justin Diaz and
Nick Perales would combine for the relief effort. Diaz struck out two Rattlers in one inning of work.
Game three will conclude the 2016 regular season for the Dustdevils. First pitch is set for Saturday at 1 pm CST in San Antonio.
