TAMIU takes No. 5 St. Edward's to the edge at home

LAREDO, Texas (September 15, 2016) -- Sophomore Goalkeeper Antonio Romero owned the net at Dustdevil Field during his debut for the 2016 season on Thursday night. The Texas A&M International Men's Soccer program took the No. 5 St. Edward's Hilltoppers for a run at home, battling their way to a 0-1 final score. The Dustdevils move to 1-3-0 overall, and experienced their first Heartland Conference loss (0-1-0).

Romero's debut proved he meant business. The keeper saw 13 shots come his way, making four saves out of the five direct Hilltopper shots on goal. At the conclusion of 90 minutes of play, TAMIU held the No.5 team to a lone goal, which SEU did not score themselves. The final scoring of the goal in the 68th minute was marked as an own goal.

TAMIU kept pace with the Hilltoppers, tallying eight shots of their own, three being on net. Alan Rivera led the way with two shots (one on goal), while Josiah Benjamin, Michael Iskander (on goal), Tayeb Ahmadi, Rafael Montabes, Eduardo Gonzalez and Funcia Kenneh (on goal) each contributed a shot a piece.

The Dustdevils held the No. 5 Hilltoppers to their lowest scoring game of the season, as their previous contests each saw two or more goals. Two of SEU's prior contestants were also nationally ranked (No.6 Colorado Mines and No. 21 Colorado Mesa).

Up next, the Dustdevils will host Dallas Baptist for their second Heartland Conference matchup of the season. The Patriots come to town on Saturday, September 17 and kickoff is set for 2:30pm CST.
