LAREDO, Texas (September 17, 2016) -- Sophmore striker
Rafael Montabes lead the way with his first career goal as a Dustdevil. TAMIU outscored Dallas Baptist 4-1 dominating their way to the win. With the win TAMIU stands at 2-3-0 overall, netting their first Heartland Conference win (1-1-0).
Aaron Zuniga set the pace by scoring the games first goal in the 26th minute. The goal was set up on a pass across the box from senior forward
Eduardo Gonzalez.
Rafael Montabes followed with a goal of his own in the 27th minute. Montabes used a back pass from midfielder
Marcelo Machado to open a 2-0 lead over the Patriots.Â
TAMIU remained aggressive to start the second half with a goal from
Josiah Benjamin.
Yair Hernandez sent a corner kick to the top of the box which was played in by a header from
Michael Iskander. Benjamin coupled Iskander's header with a header of his own into the top left corner.
Michael Iskander chipped in the final goal in the 74th minute. Iskander's goal added insurance, in the form of a three goal lead for TAMIU.
TAMIU led in shots (28-8) and shots on goal (13-3). The Dustdevils held an advantage over the Patriots with nine corner kicks.
