DURANT, OKLAHOMA (September 2, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team opened the 2016 season against Southern Arkansas on Friday. TAMIU was dealt a 0-3 loss in the opening game of the South Central Classic.
First Set: TAMIU 16 - SAU 25
The Dustdevils faced an early deficit, trailing 3-12. TAMIU would rally for four (4) straight points to cut the lead to 7-12. Five would be the smallest deficit as the Muleriders put together a four point run of their own, putting TAMIU behind 11-20.
Second Set: TAMIU 20 - SAU 25
TAMIU fought back in the second set. After a back and forth battle, the Dustdevils fell 20-25.
Third Set: TAMIU 12 - SAU 25
The third set saw the Dustdevils plagued by separate six-point runs. TAMIU would drop the third game of the match 12-25.
Newcomers
Alexis Villa and
Ali Sanchez led the team in kills, with eight and six respectively.
Samantha Gonzalez recorded a team high three blocks, while
Nadiah Fry and
Megan Unrath each picked up two.
Victoria Zamora finished the game with 11 assists,
Alejandra Bustamante finished with 11 digs.
The Dustdevils held a three block advantage over the Muleriders. Each team recorded 32 digs.
TAMIU is back in action this evening at 5 pm CST. The Dustdevils will take on Union College.
