DURANT, OKLAHOMA (September 2, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team continued play in the South Central Classic Friday night. The Dustdevils were defeated by Union University in four sets. TAMIU moves to 0-2 on the season.
Set 1: TAMIU 25 - Union 21
TAMIU started strong, opening a 3-0 lead in set one. After surrendering the lead, TAMIU found themselves battling an 11-16 deficit. Two scoring runs would bring the set even before TAMIU scored the final four points of the set, winning 25-21.
Set 2: TAMIU 26 - Union 28
Set two saw a back and forth battle throughout. Neither team would fall more than five points back throughout the set. Union outlasted TAMIU in the end, taking set two by a score of 26-28.
Set 3: TAMIU 24 - Union 26 Set 4: TAMIU 24 - Union 26
Sets three and four both resulted in 24-26 losses for TAMIU, giving Union the 3-1 advantage in the match.
Alexis Villa showcased her abilities again in game two of the Dustdevil season. Villa, a key piece in the loss to Southern Arkansas turned in another strong performance in game two. Over the course of four sets Villa recorded 21 digs and 20 assists.
Ramey Gardner picked up a team-high 12 kills while
Ali Sanchez recorded 11 digs.
Jordan Ruiz showed her skill at the net, picking up three blocks.
Samantha Gonzalez and
Nadiah Fry each picked up two blocks for TAMIU.
The Dustdevils continue play in the South Central Classic on Saturday. TAMIU will take on Central Oklahoma at 10 am CST, followed by a matchup with host, Southeastern Oklahoma at 12 pm CST.
