LAKEWOOD, Colorado (September 4, 2016) -- Freshman Forward
Samantha Ruiz netted her first collegiate soccer goal when the Dustdevils took on Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colorado on Sunday afternoon. Ruiz's lone goal was not enough for the Dustdevils to hold off the Cougars, who went on to take the win, 1-2. The Dustdevils move to 0-2-0 overall with the loss.
Ruiz's first goal of the season came as retaliation in the 33rd minute, allowing the Dustdevils to tie the contest against CCU. The goal was headed in by Ruiz off of a rebound from teammate
Susanna Abrahamsson after a CCU foul. The Cougars had opened the scoring in the 29th minute of play.
Through the remaining minutes of the first half, both teams produced drives to their opponent's nets. After 45 minutes of play, the Dustdevils and Cougars remained witha score of 1-1.
In the second half, CCU controlled the ball offensively in the opening minutes of play. The Cougars were awarded two corner kick opportunties, which gave them the momentum to score in the 64th minute.

Brenda Garcia and
Martha Perez followed Ruiz's lead by contributing their own shots during the contest. TAMIU continued to make substitutions with hopes to shake the CCU defense, but, their efforts did not show in the final score. The Dustdevils were handed a 1-2 loss after 90 minutes of play.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kiyana Lopez continued to impress during her second game in maroon with 8 saves. She faced 10 total shots on goal.
Up next, the Dustdevils will open up Heartland Conference play at I-35 rival St. Mary's on Wednesday, September 7th. Kickoff is set for 7:00PM in San Antonio, Texas.
