LUBBOCK, Texas (October 12, 2017) – Marcelo Machado and
Alan Rivera each tallied a goal in the second half as the Texas A&M International University men's soccer defeated Lubbock Christian 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at LCU Soccer Field. The win improves the Dusdtevils record to 6-3-2 and 5-3-1 in Heartland Conference play while the Chaps fall to 4-7-2 (3-4-2 HC).

The Dustdevils improved to 4-0-0 on the season when scoring two goals in a match as Machado gets credit for the game-winner on two shots with Rivera padding his team lead in goals with his seventh of the campaign.
Rafael Montabes recorded a team-high four shots, three of those on-target while
Billy Sanchez made his first career start at TAMIU.

Carlos Herrera (5-2-2) earned his fourth shutout of the season making two saves on seven shots from LCU. Herreara's four shutouts this season are the fifth-most in a single season in program history.

Montabes recorded the first shot on goal in the match in the 15
th minute after the Dustdevils spent much of the fist quarter of an hour on their own half of the pitch. The sophomore put another shot on target six minutes later but Parker O'Quinn was there to make the save.

Max Cruz had TAMIU's best chance just three minutes before the halftime whistle but his header in front of goal went over the crossbar. The Dustdevils entered halftime tied for the eighth time this season after holding a 4-3 advantage in shots.

The Dustdevils went up 1-0 on a goal from Machado in the 49th minute on a strike just outside the penalty area. Sophomore
David Martinez was credited with the assist as Machado beat LCU's O'Quinn at the near post for his first career goal.

Montabes looked to have doubled TAMU's advantage at 65:56 with a powerful left-footed shot in the area but O'Quinn made an impressive save to deny the Spaniard his first goal of the season. Just a minute later, Machado had another scoring opportunity as the Chaps struggled to clear the ball and
Elias Perales came close to putting the rebound into the back of the net.

The Dustdevils finally made it 2-0 in the 84
th minute as Rivera delivered the knockout punch with his seventh of the season on a loose ball in front of the net off a free kick from
Andres Ogaz. The Chaps were unable to clear Ogaz's ball into the middle of the area before Rivera made pounced on to double the Dustdevils' advantage.

The Dustdevils finish their five-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 14, against UT Permian Basin in Odessa. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.Â
