LAREDO, Texas (October 21, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team hosted Dallas Baptist University in the final game of a two-game stretch at home on Saturday. TAMIU was dealt a 0-3 loss, moving to 2-20 overall and 0-8 in Heartland Conference play.
The Dustdevils looked to pick up their first win against a DBU team that came into Saturday's match on a six-game losing streak but were defeated in consecutive sets (12-25, 22-25, 23-25).
SET 1: TAMIU 12 - DBU 25
DBU controlled play in the first set, opening the match with a four point advantage. Separate four-point runs allowed DBU to stretch their early lead to 12 before scoring the final two points of the set, dealing TAMIU a first set loss.
SET 2: TAMIU 22 - DBU 25
Despite falling behind 1-8 in the second set, TAMIU rallied back to bring the set within a point at 17-18. DBU would regain a five point advantage before three straight Dustdevil points brought the game within two late before DBU took the set point, ahead by three.
SET 3: TAMIU 23 - DBU 25
TAMIU fell behind early in the third set before taking their first lead of the afternoon at 11-10. The teams would trade leads before DBU used a final push to take the match with a third set win at 25-23.
DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Leah McManus picked up 10 kills and an ace Saturday while
Yuliia Hupkovska added eight kills and an ace.
Panebi Shirey and
Ronnie Fountain each tallied a block in the loss. Fountain added a team high 27 assists.
Alejandra Bustamante led the Dustdevils with 11 digs.
UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils are off until next Saturday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Lubbock Christian. It will be the teams second matchup of the season before the Dustdevils close the regular season with three games at home.
