FORT SMITH, Arkansas (October 5, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team opened up a two-week road trip against Heartland Conference leading Arkansas - Fort Smith on Thursday night. The
Dustdevils fell 0-3, moving to 2-16 overall and 0-4 in Heartland Conference play.
In their first matchup with the Lions since the 2017 season,
TAMIU fell in consecutive sets (14-25, 13-25, 10-25).
TAMIU would fall behind early in the first set as
UAFS pulled ahead 9-2. The
Dustdevils would put together a five-point run to bring the game within two points.
UAFS would push their lead back to 11 late before finishing the set up 25-14.
The Lions would use a pair of runs to take an early advantage in the second set.
TAMIU would bring the set within eight before a late five-point run out the set away as
TAMIU fell behind 0-2.
TAMIU would fall behind early in the third set before a rally closed a 14 point gap. UAFS would respond with five straight points to close third set, up 25-10.
Panebi Shirey picked up two blocks in the match while
Lacy Asdourian accounted for 16 digs.
Yuliia Hupkovska led the teams with seven kills.
Ronnie Fountain tallied 12 assists while
Leah McManus and
Mykeeta Ussery picked up an ace.

When playing an exoperienced team like Fort Smith, they do a good job of exposing your teams weaknessess while capitalizing on your errors. We will address some things in practice, make adjustments, and prepare for Newman on Saturday.
