WICHITA, Kansas (October 7, 2017) – The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team took on Newman University in their second straight road match on Saturday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 0-3 loss, falling to 2-17 overall (0-5 Heartland Conference).
TAMIU fell in consecutive sets (18-25, 15-25, 11-25), moving to 0-2 on the road trip after falling to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday.
TAMIU would rally from an early deficit to bring the match even at five, before taking the lead 14-12 at the sets midpoint. Newman would score five straight to retake their lead, and the first set 25-18.
The Dustdevils found themselves behind by 11 early in the second set before battling back into the set, coming within eight. Newman would regain their edge late, putting the second set away 25-15.
Despite a back and forth start to the third set, Newman would use a five-point run to take a 12-6 lead. The Dustdevils would cut into the lead but were unable to bring the set even before Newman recorded the final point, and match.
MATCH LEADERS:
Ronnie Fountain,
Gabrielle Zamora, and
Lacy Asdourian accounted for TAMIU's top offensive statistics. Fountain recorded 17 assists while Zamora recorded six kills. Asdourian picked up a pair of service aces. Fountain added 12 digs on the defensive side (Asdourian ,10) while
Megan Unrath and
Panebi Shirey each picked up two blocks.

Susie Jangada commented after the game, "I was very happy with the level of effort our girls showed today. We accomplished a lot of things we have been working on. We had a couple of girls step in and make an impact today. We still have some things to work on before our match with St. Mary's next week. "
UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils return to South Texas for five days before a matchup with St. Mary's University on Thursday, October 12. The Dustdevils are set to begin play at 7:00 p.m.
