DURANT, Oklahoma (February 3, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team opened the 2017 season at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational on Friday. The Dustdevils fell to East Central University and Central Oklahoma University.
Game One: TAMIU 1 - EC 2
The Dustdevils and Tigers each plated a run in the fourth inning, opening scoring for both teams.
Robi Kami picked up an RBI after doubling to left-center.
Amanda Hinajosa scored on the play. The Tigers would plate a run in the bottom of the fourth and again in the fifth, putting TAMIU behind 1-2. The final two innings were played without a run, leaving TAMIU on the short end of a pitching battle.
The Dustdevils picked up four hits in the matchup while
Delainy Thompson went all six innings, striking out two Tigers, allowing one earned run on six hits.
Game Two: TAMIU 0 - UCO 3
TAMIU was unable to crack the runs column in the second matchup of the day. The Dustdevils took on the nations 20th ranked team in the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Central Oklahoma got on the board early, plating two runs in the first inning. The Bronchos added a third run in the third inning, putting TAMIU behind 0-3.
The Dustdevils picked up six hits in the game but were unable to push a run across the plate.
Brandi Giles tossed six innings in the circle, allowing two runs on seven Broncho hits.
Up Next:
The Dustdevils continue play in the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational on Saturday. TAMIU takes on Southern Nazarene at 12pm, followed by a matchup against Cameron University at 5pm.
