Dustdevils open season with series win over Southeastern Oklahoma

LAREDO, Texas (February 4, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed out a three game series against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday. The Dustdevils picked up a 4-0 win in game one, falling 2-12 in game two. TAMIU closes the first weekend of play with a record of 2-1. 

Game One: TAMIU 4 - SOSU 0
The Dustdevils combined for a one-hit shutout of the Savage Storm in the first of two games on Saturday. Game one saw a scoreless matchup through four and a half innings. TAMIU was able to crack the runs column in the fifth inning, putting up four runs. Gavin Tristan got the Dustdevils started with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Erasmo Gonzalez Jr. Jeremy Valadez followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Mario Ramirez. William Mora put TAMIU up 4-0 with a single that plated Valadez and Ricky Gonzalez

Kyle Keishnick made his Dustdevil debut on the mound, tossing five scoreless innings, striking out four. Keishnick did not allow a hit over five innings. Osvaldo Raya threw the final two innings, striking out four. 

Game Two: TAMIU 2 - SOSU 12
The Dustdevils fell behind early in game two. The Savage Storm plated 11 runs in the first two innings, putting TAMIU behind 2-11 after two innings. Tristan would score the first Dustdevil run on a wild pitch in the first inning. The Dustdevils second run came on an RBI double from Kobrey Garcia. Jesse Phipps came around to score on Garcia's double. 

Eduardo Rodriguez got the start in game two. Rodriguez tossed 1.2 innings, picking up the loss. Hugo Mendiola and Elezar Rojas combined to throw five innings after Nick Perales tossed a third of an inning. Mendiola made his collegiate debut, allowing just one run over three innings. Rojas tossed two innings, striking out two. 

Up Next:
The Dustdevils are off through February 14 when TAMIU hosts St. Edward's. The Dustdevils will take on the Hilltoppers at Jorge Haynes Field with first pitch slated for 2pm.
