OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (March 24, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a three-game Heartland Conference series with Oklahoma Christian on Friday. TAMIU was dealt a 5-8 loss in game one. The Dustdevils fell 7-12 in game two, moving to 6-17 overall (1-7 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 5 - OC 8
Abel Aguilar put TAMIU ahead early in the first game. Aguilar sent a homerun over the left field wall on the Dustdevils second at-bat of the game, putting TAMIU ahead 1-0. Oklahoma Christian answered with a homerun of their own, plating two in the bottom of the first.Â
Erasmo Gonzalez Jr, brought the game even with a homerun in the second.
Jeremy Valadez would give the Dustdevils their second lead of the game in the third after an RBI single, scoring Alex Cabezas.Â
OC plated three runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead before Cabezas drove home
Adrian Castillo in the fifth. The Eagles plated three more runs in the fifth, opening an 8-4 lead.Â
Valadez drove home Aguilar on an RBI double down the left field line in the seventh but TAMIU could not come all the way back, falling 5-8.Â
Devon Torres got the start on the mound, tossing three innings. Torres struck out four Eagles and moves to 1-5 with the loss. Jorge Gonzales tossed the final three innings for TAMIU, striking out four.Â
Game 2: TAMIUÂ 7 - OC 12
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead before TAMIU battled back to take a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. Aguilar put the Dustdevils in the runs column with an RBI single, scoring
Adrian Castillo. Valadez followed with an RBI single of his own before
William Mora sent a three-run homerun over the left field wall, giving TAMIU a 5-1 lead.Â
OC would battle back to score seven runs over the course of the next two innings, leading to a three run deficit for the Dustdevils.Â
TAMIUÂ cut the lead to two in the seventh after Mora drove in a run with a double to left center. A four run eighth inning put the Eagles ahead 12-6.Â
Mora sent his second homerun out of the park in the ninth, cutting the lead to five before the final out was recorded.Â
Osvaldo Raya got the start, tossing five innings, picking up five strikeouts.
Nick Perales relieved Raya, tossing the final three innings. Perales allowed just two earned runs, picking up one strikeout.Â
