LAREDO, Texas (April 29, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball Team hosted Lubbock Christian in the final Regular Season game of the 2017 season. TAMIU was dealt a 0-6 loss, finishing the season 18-33 (12-9 Heartland Conference).
With multiple games still taking place around the Heartland Conference, a clear playoff picture has not been painted for TAMIU, St. Edward's, or Newman University. Game three was again played in sultry heat under the sun as a pitchers duel brewed for the second straight ballgame.
The Dustdevils and Lady Chaps traded blows with TAMIU escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third, again holding LCU scoreless with runners in scoring position in the fourth.
The Lady Chaps pushed across the first run of the ballgame on a solo-homerun in the fifth inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
LCU would go ahead 2-0 in the sixth behind the power of a second solo shot.
TAMIU would not be able to push across a run in the sixth before LCU added four runs in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead.
The Dustdevils were retired in the bottom of the seventh, ending regular season play.
Delainy Thompson took the loss, tossing six innings. Thompson struck out five Lady Chaps.
Sara Caterson tossed the final inning, allowing one run, striking out one.

A St. Edward's loss earns TAMIU a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament. Seeding will be finalized after Newman and OPSU finish their series. The Heartland Conference Tournament will be hosted by St. Mary's (#1 Seed) beginning on Thursday, May 4th.
