Bargallo Breaks School Record in Defeat to Lubbock Christian

LAREDO, Texas (September 23, 2017) – Sophomore Cio Bargallo broke the school record for most multi-goal games in a season as the Texas A&M International University women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Lubbock Christian in front of 125 fans at Dustdevil Soccer Field. With the loss, TAMIU drops to 2-5-2 overall and 1-4-0 in Heartland Conference play while LCU improves to 5-3-1 (2-2-1).

Bargallo, who registered a team-high six shots, netted two goals for the fourth time this season breaking Stephanie Webb's record from 2006. The sophomore striker now has 11 on the season, which makes her the first Dustdevil since Webb to score 10 or more goals since 2006. She now ranks second all-time in goals scored in a single season.

Abigail Colmenares, Valeria Macis, Araceli Martinez and Nicole Cohen all registered one shot apiece while Aubrey Hall (2-5-1) made one save before being replaced by Elaine Salazar in the 67th minute.

The Lady Chaps struck first in the second minute on a header from Rachael Eckert of f a throw in from Cara Hunt. It was the quickest goal given up by the Dustdevils this season.

Bargallo put the teams on level terms in the 19th minute beating Hannah Wise at the far post after a long ball from Michell Salinas. The sophomore timed her run perfectly after Salinas lofted the ball over the defense making her the first TAMIU player to score against LCU in series history.  She came close to scoring just two minutes later but her shot from just outside the penalty area went over the crossbar.

LCU retook the lead right before halftime when Haley Knesek headed home a corner near post from Kate O'Gara at 42:04. It was the 2016 Heartland Conference Freshman of the Years' first goal of the season. The Lady Chaps added another in the 65th minute making it 3-1 heading into the final 25 minutes of the match.

The Dustdevils brought one back in the 85th minute on a nice sequence involving Macias, Castro and Bargallo. Macias found an unmarked Castro on a quick corner from the left side who crossed the ball the far post on the right foot of Bargallo for her 11th goal of the season.

With all of the momentum on their side, TAMIU pushed numbers forward in search of an equalizer before LCU added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to secure the 4-2 win.
LCU would add an insurance goal in the 89th minute to win 4-2.

TAMIU will embark on a five-match road trip starting with matches against Dallas Baptist and #6 St. Edward's next. The Dustdevils and Patriots will play on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Dallas.
