Dustdevils fall to Aggies 3-6 to close Opening Weekend

LAREDO, Texas (February 10, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed a three-game series against Cameron University on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell in the series finale 3-6.

Senior Kyle Kieschnick opened his 2018 campaign on Saturday, getting the nod on the mound. The Senior would toss two innings in his 2018 debut. A pair of Dustdevils would go 2-4 at the plate in Kobrey Garcia and Mathew Trevino. Hugo Mendiola tossed five scoreless innings in relief of Kieschnick. 

HIGHLIGHTS:
Mendiola goes five scoreless:
  Hugo Mendiola relieved Kyle Kieschnick after two innings on the mound. Mendiola would toss five innings for the Dustdevils, allowing just four hits. The Aggies would not be able to push a run across the plate in Mendiola's outing, striking out four times. 

Trevino off to a hot start:  Mathew Trevino put together a 3-3 performance on Friday with three RBI. He would follow that performance up with a 2-4 day at the plate on Saturday, driving home a run for the Dustdevils. 

The sticks are hot: Depsite falling to 0-3 after Opening Weekend, the Dustdevils have gotten off to a hot start at the plate. TAMIU outhit Cameron in two of the three games in the series. The Dustdevils recorded a pair of nine-hit performances this weekend. In total, TAMIU picked up 25 hits in the series. 

Early deficit too much for TAMIU: Saturday's game saw TAMIU fall behind by five runs through two and a half innings. The Dustdevils would rally to score one in the third, sixth, and seventh but Cameron would uphold the 6-3 advantage. 

UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Friday, February 16 for the Jorge Haynes Opening Series. TAMIU will host Houston-Victoria in a three-game series.
