Dustdevils head to Victoria for doubleheader against UHV

VICTORIA, Texas (February 20, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team returns to action on Wednesday. After a three-game series with Houston-Victoria at home, the Dustdevils will head east to take on the Jaguars in Victoria on Wednesday. First pitch in a doubleheader is set for 5:00 p.m. from Riverside Stadium.

GAMEDAY WEATHER:
The weather outlook in Victoria does not look ideal with thunderstorms forecasted throughout the day. Temperatures are set to reach the mid 70's falling through the 50's by gametime. 

LAST WEEKEND:
Houston-Victoria took last weekend's three-game series with a 3-1 win on Friday and a 3-0 win on Saturday. The Dustdevils walked off in the second game of the series, winning their first game of the season 3-2. 

Josh Fonseca and Nolan Maciekeski led the Jaguars at the plate, hitting .300 and .400 for the series.

Alex Cabezas and Abel Aguilar led the Dustdevils at the plate. Cabezas launched his first homerun of the season in the second game of the series while Abel Aguilar went 3-3 at the plate in the final game fo the series. 

ON THE MOUND FOR UHV:
Houston Victoria saw Nathaniel Pena and Tanner Knowles picked up wins in the weekend series. Pena tossed six innings, allowing two hits, no runs, and struck out six. Knowles tossed five and two thirds on the mound in the final game, striking out five while scattering six hits. 

Ross Bludau started the second game of the series, tossing four innings, allowing two runs on six hits, Jacob Atkinson relieved Bludau, giving up the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. 

The Jaguars enter play at 2-3 overall.

A LOOK AT THE DUSTDEVILS:
TAMIU sits at 1-5 overall this season after falling to Cameron University on opening weekend. Wednesday's games mark the fourth and fifth games against the Jaguars this season. 

The Dustdevils have outhit opponents in four of their first six games this season while posting a team batting average of .238. Mathew Trevino leads the way, hitting .412 with a team-high four RBI. Abel Aguilar enters play with an average of .300, playing and starting all six games this season. Alex Cabezas leads the team in homeruns with one. 

The Dustdevil pitching staff holds a team ERA of 2.68 early in the season, tossing 47 innings thus far. Senior Eleazar Rojas leads the team in innings pitched (13), ERA (0.00) and strikeouts (19). Rojas went seven innings in a no-decision in his first start against Cameron, striking out 10. His second start saw the Senior toss six innings against UHV where he struck out nine Jaguars. Three runs have scored with Rojas on the mound but none have been earned. Ruben Solis sits at 1-1 with an ERA of 3.86. The Junior has struck out 12 opponents in 11.2 innings. 

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
The Dustdevils and Jaguars have faced off nine times in either programs history. The schools played three games last season with TAMIU picking up a pair of wins, while UHV picked up a win at home. The all-time series stands in favor fo the Jaguars 8-4. 

AT RIVERSIDE STADIUM:
TAMIU and UHV have played four games at Riverside Stadium in the past three seasons. The teams have split those four games at two per side. The Dustdevils last win came on March 14, 2017 where TAMIU won 15-1. Houston-Victoria's last win came on the same day when they defeated the Dustdevils 4-2
