LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a four-game series with Lubbock Christian University on Friday afternoon. The Dustdevils fell 2-10 in game one before falling 0-13 in the second game of the afternoon. TAMIU moves to 12-23 overall and 4-10 in Heartland Conference play.
GAME 1: TAMIU 2 - LCU 10
Ruben Solis got the nod in game one, tossing three and two-thirds innings for TAMIU. Solis struck out two but falls to 1-4 on the season. Solis was relived by
Mark Trimble who tossed two and a third for the Dustdevils. Trimble picked up a pair of strikeouts in his performance.
The Dustdevils picked up both of their runs early in game one. Trailing by two runs in the third,
Ricky Gonzalez would drive home Ceasar Espinosa and
Kobrey Garcia to tie the game at two.
LCU would respond with eight unanswered runs to take the game one win.
GAME 2: TAMIU 0 - LCU 13
Hugo Mendiola started game two, tossing four and a third on the mound. The Junior struck out one batter and falls to 2-5 on the season. Mendiola would be relieved by Nicholas Montemayor who tossed the final inning and two-thirds on the mound. Montemayor tallied one strikeout.
Kobrey Garcia picked up the first Dustdevil hit in game two in the third inning, ending up on second base before the inning ended.
Abel Aguilar would pick up a double in the sixth before the final hit of the game for TAMIU would come in the seventh.
Fernando Contreras picked up the third Dustdevil hit, picking up a double in the final frame.
