Finn’s 34-Point Game Help Dustdevils to Rout of LCU

LAREDO, Texas - Junior Brent Finn had a career-night with 34 points to help Texas A&M International (4-10, 1-2 HC) to a 68-47 rout of Lubbock Christian (10-5, 1-2 HC) for the Dustdevils first Heartland Conference win of the season on Thursday. The win was the fourth-straight time that TAMIU has stood victorious over Lubbock Christian at home.

Finn, a Big Timber, Mont. native, made it rain in the KCB, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor and a season-high 11-15 from the charity stripe. His 34-point game is the most in a single game by any Dustdevil this season.

Xabier Gomez also played a large role in the win posting 12 points with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Damon Leach also had a big night finishing just two rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.

The stat of the game was TAMIU's 28 points off of LCU's 24 turnovers, as well as out rebounding the Chaps 35-27. The Dustdevils were able to hold LCU to its lowest single-game point total since February 28, 2009, and held Brennen Fowler, the second-leading scorer in the conference, to single-digit points for just the second time this season.

The game itself was an extremely tight affair much of the first half. The Chaps were able to hold the advantage early, taking their largest lead of the night at 16-10. However, that lead would quickly vanish as TAMIU rallied to retake the lead to stay 18-16 with just over five minutes left in the half. The Dustdevils closed out the half on a 17-2 run to take a 27-18 margin into the break.

LCU attempted to wrestle back the lead in the early moments of the second half, but TAMIU pushed out to a permanent double-digit lead with 13:33 left in the game at 40-29. They took firm control and put the game away with their largest lead at 66-44 with 2:42 left. They eventually cruised to a 68-47 victory.

The Dustdevils will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to face off against Oklahoma Christian (5-8, 0-2 HC) on Thursday, Jan. 17.
