SAN ANTONIO - Texas A&M International volleyball (2-12, 0-5 LSC) dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision (23-25, 21-25, 18-25) to St. Mary's (8-7, 1-2 LSC) on Friday.
Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina paced the Dustdevils with a season-high 18 kills in addition to six digs, a block and an ace. Senior Annie Deininger posted 10 kills with two blocks and a dig. Sophomore Maison Kosse logged a season-high 40 assists to go along with two digs and an ace. Senior Hannah Semon contributed 17 digs.
The first set was tight early with seven ties and four lead changes. TAMIU eventually managed to break away on a 6-1 run to take a 16-13 lead. The Rattlers would tie things up again at 17-17. The Dustdevils held on to the lead until St. Mary's closed out the frame on a 4-2 run to take the 25-23 decision.
Early in the second set things were close again until the Rattlers went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. TAMIU was never able to completely rebound the rest of the set, and was only able to cut the deficit to one point multiple times. St. Mary's took the set with a 25-21 decision, as part of a 4-1 run.
Much like the first two sets, neither team could break out early in the third set. In fact, there were 13 ties and four lead changes in the first half of the frame. The Rattlers eventually went up 19-16 thanks to a 6-2 run. They won the match with a 6-1 run to take the 25-18 decision.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Austin, Texas for a Lone Star Conference matchup with St. Edward's.
