WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 12 Texas A&M International University men's soccer (8-3-1) traveled to Florida on Saturday evening to take on the No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (8-2-2), where the Dustdevils faced a 3-0 non-conference setback.
Dustdevil goalkeeper, Josh Jones was tested early but was up to the task as he stopped a trio of shots, including two taken by forward Marc Hebbeker in a span of 20 seconds, to keep the game scoreless with 11:02 showing on the game clock.
In the 29th minute, Hebbeker finished a feed from Quenzi Huerman to give the Sailfish a 1-0 edge.
TAMIU forward Johan Portales tried to score the equalizer but his shot sailed high at the 31:18 mark.
PBA took the final two shots of the opening half but both attempts missed the net to send the 1-0 match into intermission.
In the 55th minute, Jones stopped a shot by Guillermo Deal before also rejecting an attempt by Matty Crookes in the 60th minute to hold the match at a one-goal deficit (1-0).
Dustdevil midfielder David Martinez took a shot but it was off-target and went over the goal in the 74th minute.
The Sailfish would then pull away as forward Cadu Cusatis netted a pair of goals in a span of 1:48, at 78:01 and 79:49, that would ultimately settle the 3-0 final.
Jones turned away a career-high 12 shots while Sailfish goalie, Patrick Nettekoven did not face an attempt.
PBA held the advantage in shots (26-3), corner kicks (2-1) and shots on goal (15-0).
TAMIU continues its six-game road trip on Thursday, Oct. 24 with a Lone Star Conference showdown against No. 6 Midwestern State (10-1-0, 4-0-0 LSC).
