LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University men's soccer (5-1-1, 1-1-0 LSC) lost its first match of the season by a score of 4-2 against St. Edward's University (2-4-1, 2-0-0 LSC).
In the sixth minute of play, the Hilltoppers got on the board when George Murray finished a feed from Chen Adjeei to give them a one-goal advantage.
St. Edward's scored again when Matthew Parker finished a feed from Leonardo Ribeiro that got by Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones to send a 2-0 match into intermission.
In the 55th minute of play, Nadav Datner put a ball past Hilltopper netminder Marko Lilic to slash the deficit to one (2-1).
In the 71st minute, Parker netted his second goal of the match to extend the Hilltoppers' lead back to a pair of goals (3-1).
St. Edward's scored its fourth goal of the match when Izaac Zausch gave the Hilltoppers a three-goal edge.
In the 83rd minute, Nielsen scored on a penalty kick to make it a two-goal match (4-2). Nielsen's goal would ultimately be the final one of the evening and settled the 4-2 decision.
TAMIU led the way in shots (13-9), shots on goal (7-6) and corner kicks (6-3).
Jones made a trio of saves for the Dustdevils while Lilic made five saves for St. Edward's.
The Dustdevils will remain at home on Saturday, Oct. 5 for another Lone Star Conference showdown against DBU (2-6-0, 0-2-0 LSC) at 7 p.m.
