Datner's pair of goals propels TAMIU to 4-0 victory over DBU

LAREDO, Texas – No. 10 Texas A&M International University men's soccer (6-1-1, 2-1-0 LSC) claimed a convincing 4-0 Lone Star Conference victory over DBU (2-7-0, 0-3-0 LSC) from Dustdevil Soccer Field on Saturday evening. With the victory, TAMIU improves to 9-1-1 against the Patriots dating back to the 2012 campaign.
 
The Dustdevils broke the scoring ice with 14:43 showing on the game clock when Ruben Nielsen finished a feed from Charlie Michel that beat Patriot goalkeeper Tristan Olvera. With the goal, Nielsen now has a team-high six goals on the season.

Only 3:34 later, Michel found Datner for his first goal of the match and give the Dustdevils a two-goal edge (2-0). The senior midfielder's assist marked a career-high two-assist match. 

In the 37th minute, TAMIU continued to pour on the goals as Jorge Encinas registered his first-career goal to give the Dustdevils a comfortable 3-0 lead. 

Datner scored his second goal of the match on a feed from Steve Taylor in the 39th minute. This was Taylor's second assist of the match and sent a 4-0 match into intermission. 

In the 86th minute of play, TAMIU goalkeeper Nicolas Heuser stopped a shot by Abraham Garcia. Heuser's save would ultimately settle the 4-0 victory.  

TAMIU outplayed DBU in shots (20-7), shots on goal (9-1) and corner kicks (10-2).

Josh Jones protected the net for TAMIU in the opening 69:58 of play before Heuser closed out the match as he registered the lone save of the match. Olvera made one save in the first half and Jeremiah Morales stopped four shots in the second stanza for the Patriots. 

The Dustdevils will begin a six-game road trip starting in Canyon, Texas on Thursday, Oct. 10 for a Lone Star Conference showdown against West Texas A&M (4-1-1, 1-0-1 LSC) at 7 p.m.
