Dustdevils Down Greyhounds 3-1

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International volleyball (5-15, 3-10 LSC) took down Eastern New Mexico (3-18, 1-12 LSC) in a 3-1 victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-27, 25-22) on Friday.

Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina led the Dustdevils with a double-double of 19 kills and 14 digs, as well as five assists, three blocks and a service ace. Senior Annie Deininger logged 12 kills with two digs, a block and an assist. Sophomore Maison Kosse also logged a double-double with a season-high 47 assists and 11 digs, in addition to a career high seven kills and two blocks. Senior Hannah Semon contributed 30 digs.

The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 5-2 lead to start the match. However, the Dustdevils found their footing and took their first lead at 8-7, thanks to a 5-1 run. They would extend their lead out to 15-11. ENMU fought back and retook the lead 18-17 as part of a 4-0 run of their own. TAMIU responded swiftly, as they immediately began an 8-2 run that would give them the 25-20 decision.

The second set was tight through the first half, with neither team able to get more than a three point lead. However, the Dustdevils eventually broke away on a 6-1 run to take a 19-13 lead. The Greyhounds tried to fight back and managed to cut the deficit to 22-21. TAMIU held on to take the set 25-22.

In the third set, ENMU again jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. The Dustdevils kept it close for most of the early goings, but eventually found themselves down 19-13. From there, they dug their heels in and mounted an incredible 8-2 run to tie things 21-21. With TAMIU holding match point at 24-23, the Greyhounds roared back to stave off defeat with a 4-1 run to claim the set 27-25.

In the fourth set, the Dustdevils went up early 7-4. ENMU rallied to tie things at 9-9, and eventually took the lead 16-15. Down 20-17, TAMIU rallied to claim the victory with an 8-2 run for the 25-22 victory.

The Dustdevils will close out the homestand on Saturday as they host West Texas A&M at 1 p.m.
