TAMIU Falls To Lady Buffs

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International volleyball (5-16, 3-11 LSC) fell to West Texas A&M (18-4, 11-3 LSC) in a 3-0 decision (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday.

Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina led the Dustdevils with her second straight double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, as well as a service ace. Senior Annie Deininger logged eight kills with two digs and a service ace. Sophomore Maison Kosse put together her second straight double-double as well with 24 assists and 11 digs, to go with four kills and four service aces. Sophomore Elicia Jackson posted five blocks with 2 digs and a kill. Senior Hannah Semon contributed 18 digs and three assists.

The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early 7-3 lead to start the match. They extended their lead to 11-6, followed by a 6-1 run to push out to 17-9. TAMIU tried to battle back and were able to trim the lead to 19-14, but that would be as close as they would get. WT eventually took the set 25-17.

The Dustdevils bounced back in the second set to take an early 4-0 lead in the second set. The Lady Buffs rallied to tie things at 4-4, but TAMIU responded with a 5-1 run to push out to a 9-5 advantage. Again, WT rattled off four straight points to tie things at 9-9. The Dustdevils would go up again only have the Lady Buffs tie things at 14-14. With TAMIU up 16-14, WT would proceed to go on a 7-2 run to take a 21-18 lead. The Dustdevils would tie things at 22-22, but the Lady Buffs closed out the set on a 3-1 run to take the 25-23 decision.

The third set started tight with both teams battling back and forth. TAMIU was able to break away thanks to a 5-2 run for a 9-6 lead. WT would tie and take the lead with a 6-1 run for a 13-12 advantage. Both teams would keep it close for the remainder of the set with four ties and two lead changes. However, the Lady Buffs would take the victory by taking the final three points for a 25-22 decision.

The Dustdevils will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 as they begin the final road trip of the regular season in Stephensville, Texas as they face off against Tarleton.
