Dustdevils make NCAA Men's Soccer Championship debut in first-round showdown with Colorado School of Mines

AZUSA, Calif. – Ninth-seeded Texas A&M International University men's soccer (12-7-1) battled with the eighth-seeded Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (14-3-4) in TAMIU's first NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship appearance in school history, but fell in the opening round by a score of 2-1 in Azusa, Calif on Thursday evening. This concludes the program's historic 12-win season.
 
In the 18th minute of play, the Orediggers found the back of the net, when Lucas King found Ryan Wilson off of a corner kick that got by Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones to give Colorado School of Mines a 1-0 lead.
 
The Dustdevils quickly responded as Johan Portales finished the equalizer on a feed from Elias Perales that beat Oredigger goalie, Drew Johnson to knot the match at one apiece in the 27th minute.
 
At the 43:20 mark, Adam Kindorf registered a goal that was assisted by Ian Kugler and sent the 2-1 match into intermission.
 
The second half was a defensive stalemate as Jones rejected a shot by Patrick Allan in the 57th minute to keep the deficit at one (2-1).
 
In the 70th minute, Portales tested Johnson, but his shot that was heading towards the bottom right side of the net was stopped.
 
Cem Izgec took the final shot on goal for TAMIU but Johnson made the save to secure the 2-1 victory for the Orediggers.
 
Jones ended the match with one save for TAMIU while Johnson ended the match with four stops.
 
In the end, the Dustdevils led the way in shots on goal (5-3) and corners (3-2) while the Orediggers held the advantage in shots (9-8).
